Dr. Mary Arthur
Professional Biography
As a forest ecologist, my research program has focused on the relationships between tree species and ecosystem processes, and the ways in which forest change can affect those processes. My interest in urban forestry stems from an increasing focus on these interrelationships in forests within urban and suburban environments, often the sites where such changes are occurring most rapidly. My teaching program is also increasingly focused on issues germane to urban and suburban environments, where I guide students in projects and internships that link urban trees and forests to a wide array of ecosystem services, simultaneously connecting students to nature within the cityscape.
