Narrative

One of my favorite trees is the one growing in my front yard! The White Ash (Fraxinus americana)! Ash trees grow in everyone's yard in my neighborhood, but they're different kinds of ashes. A couple hundred trees are sprawled out all over the neighborhood in between the sidewalk and road. All of the trees in my neighbor's yards and mine have been planted in the last ten years, but mine is only seven years old. My tree is about 18.5 feet tall. The tree's bark is gray and smooth with a nice oval shape on the leaflets where little edges are on the edges of the green leaflets. The White Ash is a very nice tree, and I don't think there is anything not to like about. In particular though I really like the green compound leaves and the brown and gray bark. I think of the trees from cartoons when I see the smooth gray and brown bark with its different shades of colors. Another thing that is my favorite about this tree is in the fall when the leaves turn red. Not only are the leaves on my tree red, but other leaves on trees in the neighborhood are yellow, orange, or yellow! Even though the tree is small it helps me a lot with shade. The White Ash is cut down a often times for furniture. Without trees there would be no clean air, no shade, no privacy and not half as much fun. Having a tree is like a friend because you can climb on it, and count on it for shade and privacy.
