Jackson and scarlet oak
> Scarlet Oak
> It is in my front yard by the road.
My favorite tree is a scarlet oak (Quercus coccinea). It is a giant 55-foot tall tree that towers over all the other ones around it. The bark on this tree is a brownish grey with many rough spots. Its leaves are dark green, and have seven lobes. The leaves are dark green in the summer and spring, but then they turn red in the fall. The tree goes straight up, with its first branches starting at about ten feet high. When we bought the house over the summer it was a little over grown. Therefore, we had to trim down some of the branches creating some cutoff limbs in places where they have been trimmed. This is my favorite tree for many different reasons. I like it because when I play in the yard, it stops my wiffle balls and footballs from going into the road. It also provides a lot of shade, making it better to play there. Also, I like it because when we play whiffle ball, I can use it as first base. When I pulled up to my house for the first time, it was the first thing I saw. This is a cool memory that will last forever. Every day when I look out the kitchen window it is right there making me feel happy. Now that I know it has many benefits I will take much better care of it.
